Preparation
Always ensure the surface to be painted is clean, dry, and free from any contaminates which may affect adhesion.
- Clean the surface with a stiff bristle brush and a to remove any surface dirt and to bring it back to a clean bright surface.
- Removed any decayed areas and replace with new timber.
- Use a scrapper to remove any resinous deposits.
- Resinous deposits and knots should be degreased by wiping with a clean, lint free cloth, dampened with methylated spirits.
- Freshly sawn ends of decking should be treated with a .
- Do not use Sadolin Decking Stain and Protector on substrates that have had water-repellent preservative treatments or higher build finishes applied. Preservative treatments will need to be weathered whilst previous coatings will need to be completely removed.
- All defective coatings should be completely removed.
- Greyed timber should be renovated back to a clean bright surface this can be done with a suitable detergent or sanding.
- Organic growths must be removed and infected surfaces should be treated with a suitable .
Application
We recommend always following the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin. Stir thoroughly, it is recommended that a small test area is applied before treating the entire surface to ensure compatibility.
- Do not apply if there is a risk of rain or if temperatures are below 8°C and above 25°C.
- Supplied ready to use do not thin.
- Apply using a good quality, synthetic fibre bristle brush.
- pply 2-3 liberal coats to ensure the surface is fully saturated.
- Applying several 'wet on wet' coats until the end grain refuses to absorb anymore.
- Allow 4-6 hours between coats.
- Overspreading will affect the long-term durability of the product.
